Andhra Pradesh
The airport shuttle bus service in Hyderabad is an excellent and economical facility but unfortunately, the occupancy is only about 10 per cent. The authorities and the public should utilise these services to the maximum to reduce traffic jams created by private and hired cars, besides saving fuel. The GMR RGIA is a well-planned and decent airport. However, at the roof and floor damages are visible. The authorities should take steps for proper maintenance. David Macwan Visakhapatnam Check price riseThe prices of food grains have skyrocketed with Masuri rice costing Rs.23 a kg. to increase the misery of the common man. While the Central Government is more concerned with the nuclear pact than the food crisis in the country, the State government is busy with the creation of special export zones with foreign collaboration and with grant of permits for private buses to the detriment of Andhra Pradesh Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) which is losing an income of Rs.1,000 crores. The fuss created by the Panchayat Raj Minister’s brother on the strict implementation of the transport rules by the authorities reflects the lukewarm attitude of the government. The voters are not so gullible to fall for election offers and the StateGovernment should take up procurement of paddy, store it in godowns, process it through non-trading mills and sell the rice directly through retailers for a fair price. N.V. Rama Rao Visakhapatnam Introduce new trainIndian Railways should introduce a fast passenger with sleeper class facility from Srikakulam Road to Tirupati with limited stops. Srikakulam is a backward area and a lot of poor people who are great devotees of Lord Balaji, will be helped by such a facility. G. Gopala Krishna Srikakulam Sanitation problemPithapuram Colony in Visakhapatnam city has become a big market, concentrated around the Rotary Club’s Research Centre. In front of the centre, a fish market has come up with all its consequential effects which include, among other things, bad sanitation and foul smell. Crows carry the raw fish pieces to the residential area in the vicinity. I request the GVMC authorities to address the problem. Bh. Sriramamurty Visakhapatnam Help cultural centreKalabharati auditorium in the city is well maintained and has become a great centre for cultural activities of music, dance and drama. But the high cost of electricity charges and running its own generator on all days between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. when the power cut is imposed, entails avoidable expenditure. The State Government should extend concessions to the centre to encourage its activities. V. Sriharidas Visakhapatnam
