Residents of the street alerted her relatives and the injured girl was rushed to a private hospital in Perungudi. She was then referred to Government General Hospital, where she died in the evening. She was a Standard III student at a government school near her house, the police said. Car driver Prabhu (25) was arrested.

Man stabs wife to death

A woman was stabbed to death by her husband in Kallukuttai, Perungudi, on Sunday.

The Thoraipakkam police said Yesaiah (46), a painter of advertisement hoardings, was living in Kannagi Nagar in Thoraipakkam while his wife Bhagyam (43) and their three children were living in Kallukuttai. The two are reported to have quarrelled often. On Sunday, Yesaiah had insisted that his wife sign divorce papers, but she refused.

In a fit of rage, Yesaiah pulled out a knife from the kitchen and stabbed her. Neighbours admitted her to a private hospital nearby, where she succumbed to injuries, the police said. The neighbours also overpowered Yesaiah and handed him over to the Thoraipakkam police.
