VIZIANAGARAM: TDP district committee has threatened to launch an agitation if sufficient quantity of fertilizers is not made available to farmers for the kharif. Talking to reporters after submitting a memorandum to District Revenue Officer P.A. Sobha (in the absence of Collector B. Kishore) on Monday, the party district president Yadla Ramana Murty said Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and Agriculture Minister N. Raghuveera Reddy were issuing misleading statements on fertilizers when farmers had been facing severe shortage in districts. He said at the end of July, when the requirement was 40,156 tonnes of urea for the district, the administration had supplied 6,830 tonnes out of the sanctioned 12,000 tonnes; against 9,236 tonnes of DAP, 1,095 tonnes was supplied when the sanction was 6,000 tonnes and in the case of complex fertilizers the requirement was 12916 tonnes and the supply was a mere 2,879 tonnes against the sanction of 7,600 tonnes. The shortage was felt at a time when farmers began transplantation after the recent wet spell, he said.
