PUDUCHERRY: The Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA), Puducherry branch along with Mother Teresa Institute of Health Sciences (MTIHS) organised a seminar on “Global warming – Impact on India” on August 2. Head of Ecology and Environmental Studies of Pondicherry University Anisa Basheer Khan spoke on the phenomena of increase in rate of temperature change, impact on various habitats, influence on agricultural, health, flora and fauna and the fallout of climatic changes leading to increase in sea level. She said areas such as health, agriculture and forest were affected owing to global warming. She suggested remedies such as recycling paper, plastic, glass, aluminium cans, following vegetarian food habits, less driving, using green energy and utilising renewable energy. Registrar of MTIHS V. Gopal presented the “ten commandments” to combat global warming which included replacing incandescent light bulb with compact fluorescent bulbs, saving energy at home, buying energy efficient electronic appliances, planting trees and protecting forests and educating against global warming.
