Corrections and clarifications

>>The fourth paragraph in a report “Stampede near Himachal temple claims 146 lives” (August 4, 2008, page 1) was “More than 5000 devotees were on their way to the temple, situated at a height of about 4000 metres, at the time of the incident.” It should have been 4000 feet.

>>The fourth paragraph of a report “Conscious decision to uphold Constitution: Speaker” (August 2, 2008) was “Noting that he was elected unanimously to the Lok Sabha after 18 nomination papers were filed in his favour by the ruling as well as opposition parties, Mr. Chatterjee said he had assured all members of the House then he would discharge his responsibilities in a non-partisan manner.” The sentence should have read as “Noting that he was elected unanimously as Speaker of the Lok Sabha ....”

>>A report “Tripartite meet on Gorkhaland issue” (August 2, 2008) had references to a “Mr Giri” in the text, leading to queries. It should have been to the Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM) general secretary Roshan Giri. (It was an editing error.)

>>The second paragraph of a report “Inflow into Mettur reservoir continues to be heavy” (Tamil Nadu, August 2, 2008) said that the storage on Friday was 20,000 tmcft as against the capacity of 93.4 tmcft. It was an editing error and should have been 20 tmcft.

>>A sentence in the second paragraph of a report “Chinnamalai, a lesser-known freedom fighter of Kongu soil” (Tamil Nadu, August 2, 2008) was “During the fight, Chinnamalai’s cook Nallappan betrayed him by disclosing his location to Company sepoys, who hanged him to death in Sivagiri fort.” Chinnamalai was hanged at the Sankagiri fort.
