Winners honoured

Students of Best Matriculation School in Sirkazhi in Nagapattinam district have bagged the first and second prizes in the talent contest conducted for Matriculation schools in Nagapattinam last week. They were honoured by the school management for their achievement. About 200 students from various Matriculation schools participated in the contest.

Rural Education Day

The Meenakshi Primary School, an aided school at Neppathur village near Sirkazhi in Nagapattinam district, celebrated ‘Rural education day’ last week to create awareness among people on the need for providing compulsory education to children. Ragunathan, correspondent of the school, presided.

Quiz contest held

The Kunnandarkoil union branch of the Tamil Nadu Science Forum conducted a ‘Thulir’ quiz contest at the Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Keeranur in Pudukottai district recently. School students in the union participated in the quiz competitions held for three categories – category I: classes VI to VIII; category II: classes IX and X and category III: classes XI and XII.

Government Girls HSS, Keeranur team won the title in the category III and was selected to participate in the district level competitions. The teams of Government High School, Odukanpatti won the first prize in the category I and II. The second place in both the categories went to Government Girls HSS, Keeranur and the third place to Government High School, Uppiliyakudi. The Headmistress of the Keeranur school, Vanaja Salomi gave away the prizes to the winners. The conveners of the Forum, Sivakumar and Shanmugam offered felicitations.

Educational Development Day

Rotary Club of Palace City, Pudukottai, and Sri Venkateshwara Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Pudukottai, observed Educational Development Day. The president of the Club Thangam Moorthy presided. Poet Sundar delivered special address. Students Pandipriya, Shobana, Akshaya, Swathipriya and Santosh spoke on former Chief Minister Kamaraj. Harini, a student of the school, presented classical dance during the occasion. Secretary of the club M. Karupaiyya, former presiden ts Senthil and Muthusamy, and staff Rajamani spoke.

Science exhibition

Government High School, Maruthanthalai, Pudukottai district, conducted a science exhibition recently. Chief Educational Officer S. Chellam and District Educational Officer M. Madavan Pillai coordinated it. The president of Village Educational Committee S. Malaiyappan inaugurated the expo.

Headmaster of the school A. Soosai presided.

Students got together to demonstrate various phenomena of science through their innovative models.

Science teachers K. Periyasamy, R. Prabhakaran, and M. Irene lent a helping hand for the students in preparing the presentations.

The expo sought to trigger the scientific temper among students.

Students of nearby schools visited the exhibition.

Prizes distributed

Union Minister for Panchayat Raj and Development of Northeast Region Mani Shankar Aiyar was given a ceremonial welcome at Al’Ameen Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Kumbakonam. He distributed prizes to the students who secured ranks in the annual examination. Vice-president of Thanjavur District Muslim Educational Association M. A. Mohamed Ziavudeen presided over the function. Correspondent of the school M. Kamaludeen and Principal S. Syed Abdul Subahan spoke. Art association inaugurated

Art association was inaugurated at Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Nannilam, Tiruvarur district. Department Head of Economics, A.V.C. College, Mayiladuturai, was the chief guest. He detailed on the employment opportunities available for students pursuing their studies in social sciences. He urged the students to take up such courses and tune their academic skills. Headmaster of the school P. Manickam presided.

Five students adopted

Rotary Club of Aranthangi, Pudukottai district, adopted five students from Government Girls Higher Secondary School. Economically challenged and meritorious students were picked up by the club and their education would be completely sponsored. C. Kaleeshwari, D. Gayathri, S. Neela, M, Chandra and R. Geetha were adopted at a function held here recently. Deputy Governor R. Vairavan distributed uniforms, notebooks and stationeries to the students. He also assured the top perf ormers in class XII examinations of deduction in fees in his engineering college.

Free scout uniforms distributed

Rotary Club of Pudukottai Palace City donated free scouts and guides uniforms to the students of Government High School, Vadavalam, Pudukottai district. Economically backward students were picked out by the club and the uniforms were distributed to encourage them to join the extra curricular activity.

Students – Kalaiselvi, Bhuvaneshwari, Aramu, Divya Bharathi and Podhumponnu – received the uniforms. Club president Thangam Moorthy presided over. Deputy Governor S. P. Ulagappan was the chief guest and distributed the uniforms. Past president N. Vijayaraman and district secretary of scouts and guides V. Gunaseelan spoke.
