ADILABAD: Heavy rain on Sunday night and Monday morning caused damage to property and crops in some villages and urban localities in Adilabad district.

Two persons, one each in Bheemaram in Jaipur mandal and Mandamarri, were also reportedly washed away in the flooding local streams.

However, the deaths could not be confirmed until late afternoon because communication lines had remained snapped for almost the whole day. Houses in many localities and villages on the banks of local streams were water logged due to overflowing of the rivers.

Collector Ahmad Nadeem said the extent of damage would come out only when the enumeration teams finish their survey. “There may be some damage to crops while animals have also been lost in Kuchalapur,” he said.

Traffic flow was affected at many places like at the Rayapatnam bridge that joins Adilabad with Karimnagar district as the Godavari was in spate. The Dasnapur stream and the Seetagondi stream made traffic come to a standstill on NH 7 for about two hours in the wee hours.

Power supply remained cut off for almost 10 hours in some parts of Adilabad town. At some other places, the supply was not restored until late afternoon due to damage caused to distribution lines.

The average rainfall recorded was 124 mm, which resulted in good inflows in almost all the projects in the district. Eight flood gates at Kadem and one at Satnala medium irrigation project had to be raised to discharge excess inflows. The discharge from Kadem was 3 lakh cusecs while it was 750 cusecs at Satnala.

At Kuchalapur village in Adilabad mandal, water entered many houses causing damage to household articles.

In some cases, houses were inundated due to flood in the nearby stream.

About 150 animals, including over 100 sheep, met a watery grave while on tether. Houses on the banks of Dasnapur river in Hanumannagar, Ramnagar and Subhashnagar were damaged either partially or completely. Many residents lost their meagre belongings.
