Man arrested for friend’s murder

TAMBARAM: The Ambattur district police have arrested a youth in connection with the murder of a construction worker in Maduravoyal last week.
Venkatesan (32) of Kanniamman Nagar, Maduravoyal, was found dead in a remote spot adjacent to Chennai Bypass on Friday morning.
S.R.Jangid, Chennai Suburban Police Commissioner, told reporters on Monday evening that the identity of the victim was established only after preliminary investigations by a special team of Ambattur district police.
Venkatesan was taken to the spot by Sivaraj (30), his friend. Both of them are reported to have consumed liquor.
Sivaraj had mixed poison in the drink that he served to Venkatesan, following which the latter lost consciousness and later stoned him to death. Personal enmity is reported to be the motive behind the murder.
Sivaraj has been remanded to judicial custody. Balanaga Devi, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Ambattur, was also present.
