Five die in road accident

Sirsi: Five persons were killed on the spot and five injured seriously in a road accident on National Highway 17, near Manki, in Honnavar taluk on Sunday night. The victims were on their way to Dharmasthala in a private vehicle from Ilkal in Belgaum district. The vehicle by which they were travelling hit a bus when the driver tried to overtake a tanker at Jeddi Cross. There were 15 persons in the vehicle.
The victims have been identified as Mallappa Ganagappa Hadpad (30), Sangappa Ingalgi (26), Umesh Sangappa Malpadi (24), Maltesh Anandappa (24), and Basavanna Beemanna Biradar (40). The condition of the injured is stated to be critical.
