Park at Mahal - Reader's Mail

The park in front of Thirumalai Naick Palace (Mahal), a grand edifice that attracts a large number of tourists from all over the world, looks shabby. Since it is one of the famous tourist spots in Madurai, the Tourism Department ought to have developed the park on the lines of Brindavan Gardens in Mysore, with colourful lights, fountains and the works. I request the Collector to take up this matter with the Ministry of Tourism in this regard.

IIT for Madurai

Our Chief Minister proposed Anna Universities for Coimbatore, Tiruchi and Tirunelveli; Central Engineering University for Coimbatore; IIM for Tiruchi, and IIT for Madurai. But Madurai does not figure in the list of 8 IITs approved recently by the Union Finance Ministry, despite the portfolio is handled by Minister from this region. Madurai has been deprived of industrialisation and higher education facilities all through the years.

To facilitate industrialisation, among other things, Sayalkudi can be developed as a seaport and connected to Madurai via Aruppukottai by a four-lane highway.

Dirty area

I am a resident of Anna Nagar, opposite Fatima College. Accumulating garbage on the streets in our area emanates stench and the situation is unbearable during rainy season. We, residents, request the officials to look into the matter and help us out of this mess.

Violence in films

Of late, violence in Tamil films has gone beyond the ‘tolerance limit,’ which will surely make a negative impact on the impressionable minds of youngsters. The Censor Board is requested to exercise strict control in allowing gory scenes.
