HYDERABAD: Rajesh Choudhary continued to rule the Laser Standard fleet, winning races three and four in the Laser Nationals at the Hussain Sagar here on Tuesday. DPS Selvam got the gun in the third race, but was disqualified following a protest from Ram Kumar, which was upheld. After the five-minute signal had gone prior to commencement of the contest, Selvam’s, being the windward boat, came into contact with Kumar’s, necessitating the former to do two turns as penalty. Without exonerating himself, Selvam went ahead with the race. Consequent to this ruling, Rajesh Choudhary, who had finished barely a second behind Selvam, was declared winner. If he had seemingly lost out to Selvam by a hair’s breadth in the third, Choudhary brooked no challenge in the fourth, leading from start to finish. On the opening reach, ‘Chow’ was tailed by Army Yachting Node (AYN) team-mates Dharmender Singh, B.K. Rout and V. Hari Hara. That order was retained when circling the gybe mark and the Marriott end. On the downwind leg of the loop, Choudhary broke free to a lead of about a quarter of a leg while Jasvir edged Rout out from third position. Rout, a native of Orissa and the defending champion in the Radial class, made amends on the next beat, consolidating his position on the first reach of the second triangle. On the concluding straight, Choudhary covered Rout closely, threading his way with care through a swarm of 4.7s heading for the finish a little ahead of the Standard set. The results: Laser Standard III: 1. Rajesh Choudhary 2. B.K. Rout 3. Jasvir Singh (all AYN). IV: 1. Rajesh Choudhary 2. B.K. Rout 3. V. Hari Hara (all AYN). Laser 4.7 III: 1. Sarav Rajavelu (TNSA) 2. Xerxes Bamboat (RBYC) 3. Aman Mohan Vyas (NSS). IV: 1. Xerxes Bamboat 2. Aman Mohan Vyas 3. Varun A. Thakkar (TNSA). Laser Radial III: 1. Gajender Singh 2. Sukhvir Singh (both AYN) 3. Shekhar S. Yadav (INWTC). IV: 1. S.S. Yadav 2. Gajender Singh 3. Anil Sharma (NSS). — Special Correspondent
