‘Megh Sandhya’ in Mangalore on Sunday

MANGALORE: Dhananjay Hegde, vocalist, will perform at Ravindra Kalabhavan here on Sunday.

A disciple of Hindustani vocalist Vinayak Torvi, Mr. Hedge, who lives in Mumbai, will present “Megh Sandhya” with Shashikant Kulkarni on tabla and founder of city-based Sangeet Bharati Foundation Narendra L. Nayak on harmonium. The event is being organised by the foundation.

This will be followed by a performance by violinist Praveen Shivalikar from Bhopal.

The 44-year-old musician, who started learning music at the age of 9, is associated with All India Radio, Bhopal, and has performed on platforms such as Tansen Samaroh of Gwalior. Mr. Hegde started learning music at the age four from his mother Geeta Hegde.

He trained under Venkateshkumar of Dharwad before taking advanced training from Pandit Torvi.

He started performing at the age of seven.

He was the runner-up in the national level talent search competition held in Kolkata in 1990.

A graded artiste of All India Radio, he has brought out a few cassettes and CDs. He has toured U.S., Nepal, Thailand and Bangladesh with Pandit Torvi.
