HERITAGE: A tomb belonging to Barid Shahi dynasty in Bidar city. BIDAR: The tombs of the rulers of the Bahamani and Barid Shahi dynasties are among the tourist attractions in Bidar district, which has many places of architectural, historical and religious importance. According to the book “Bidar Heritage” published by the Department of Archaeology, Museums and Heritage, Bangalore, of the 61 monuments listed by the department, about 30 are tombs located in and around Bidar city. The prominent tombs are the Chaukhandi of Hazrat Khalil-Ullah Shah and the tomb of Sultan Ahmed Shah Al Wali Bahamani, among others, from the Bahamani dynasty. The Bahamani tombs are located at Ashtoor village, 4 km from Bidar city. The tomb of Sultan Humayun, which was split open after being struck by lightning, is located along with other smaller tombs. Among the Baridi Shahi rulers, the tombs of Ali Barid and Ibrahim Barid are the important ones. The Chaukhandi is the tomb of Hazrat Khalil-Ullah, who was the religious preceptor of Ahmad Shah. DargahApart from the tombs, the dargah of Hazrat Shah Abdul-Faid is among the ASI-listed monuments. RestorationSpeaking to The Hindu here on Tuesday, Senior Conservation Assistant of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), Bidar, Anandtheerth said the restoration of the Chaukhandi had been completed.
