DAVANGERE: City Central Hospital here will observe Vascular Day on Wednesday. A free health check-up camp will be held to diagnose peripheral arterial disease (PAD), which, if not diagnosed and treated, may result in the loss of limbs. Speaking to presspersons here on Tuesday, Subbarao, cardiothoracic and vascular surgeon and Managing Director of the hospital, said that over 43,000 diabetics in the country had lost their legs owing to PAD. The disease was prevalent in one among every three persons above the age of 70, and one among every 20 persons aged around 50. To create awareness among people, the hospital would also check ankle brachial pressure index free of cost. A Doppler duplex scan and angiography, if needed, would also be performed , he said.
