Haryana Govt. cancels licences of 96 dealers

For committing irregularities in distribution of commodities


Security deposits of 425 dealers amounting to over Rs.3.31 lakh forfeited

‘As many as 9558 fair price shops were functioning in the State’


Chandigarh: The Haryana Government has cancelled licences of 96 dealers and forfeited security deposits of 425 dealers amounting to over Rs.3.31 lakh, besides registering cases with the police against three depot holders for committing various irregularities in the distribution of essential commodities to the ration card holders during the period from April to June 2008.

While stating this here on Tuesday, a spokesman of the Food and Supplies Department said that as many as 9558 fair price shops were functioning in the State to supply essential commodities to the poor families at subsidized rates.

Out of the total fair price shops 6884 shops were located in rural areas and 2674 shops in urban areas.

As many as 77 fair price shops were located near industrial units for the benefit of the families of the industrial workers, he added.

He said that new Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS) had also been implemented in the State.

Government of India had allocated 35117 metric tonnes of wheat for the distribution to BPL, APL and AAY families, besides allocating 35117 metric tonnes of wheat to be distributed under TPDS for the month of July.

Levy sugar allocation was made on monthly basis by the Government of India and 2485 metric tonnes of levy sugar was allocated to the State to be distributed through fair price shops during the month of June, 2008, he added.

Distribution

He said that village level committees of members of panchayats and others had also been constituted in the State to ensure effective check over the fair price shops and supervise the distribution of controlled commodities.- PTI
