New fire stations inaugurated in Rohini

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Government would establish a fire station in each of the 70 State Assembly segments and they would be equipped with specialised equipment, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said on Tuesday while inaugurating two new fire stations in Rohini at Sector 5 and Sector 15.The Chief Minister said it had become essential to set up new fire stations as a large number of multi-storey buildings and apartment complexes were coming up in Delhi. She said while plots for 26 fire stations had been identified, 15 fire stations are at present under construction.

Of these, she said, the fire stations at Paschim Vihar, Shastri Park, Mangolpuri, Tigri Kalan, Tahirpur, Sarita Vihar and Jwala Heri would be inaugurated this month.

Lauding the role played by fire personnel in saving lives and preventing fire tragedies, Ms. Dikshit said the Government had also set up disaster management centres at Laxmi Nagar, Rohini and Nehru Place fire stations.

She said specialised equipment including 15 water tenders and three hose tenders have been provided to the Delhi Fire Service.

Also, as many as 600 fire protection suits have been procured for its staff.

The fire station in Sector 5 of Rohini has been constructed at a cost of Rs.4.25 crore and has three bays for fire appliances, office accommodation and 23 staff quarters. The fire station in Sector 15 has been constructed at a cost of Rs.4.4 crore and has office accommodation and 25 staff quarters.
