BHOPAL: After the ‘cash for vote’ scam linked with the recent trust vote in Parliament was once again brought into public gaze by some United Progressive Alliance constituents on Monday, the Bharatiya Janata Party leaders here chose to distance themselves from the media and were not available for comments. The CD released by the UPA allies purportedly showed that the BJP, aided by a former Samajwadi Party worker, had fabricated the pay-off before the trust vote on July 22. Three BJP MPs — two of them from Madhya Pradesh, Ashok Argal (Morena) and Phaggan Singh Kulaste (Mandla), besides Mahavir Bhagora — had waved bundles of currency notes, allegedly given to them by the SP to vote for the government, in the Lok Sabha during the trust vote. While the BJP said the Congress had stage-managed the latest CD in question, top State BJP leaders were not available for comments. The Leader of Opposition in the Assembly, Jamuna Devi, has asked Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan to reply to charges against him in connection with this scam. Congress spokesman Manak Agrawal, who had earlier accused the State BJP leadership of arranging the money put up on display in Parliament, on Tuesday said any attempt by the BJP to target the Congress would backfire. He said the people would give a befitting reply to the BJP during the coming elections. He also said BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu should ask his party MPs to testify before the Parliamentary Committee probing the alleged scam rather than demanding apology from Congress leaders.
