The aim should be to make vegetables available to consumers at reasonable rates and at the same time ensure remunerative prices to farmers, he told an official meeting on Monday to review prices of vegetables. The meeting also discussed demand and supply of vegetables and area under their cultivation, an official press release said.

The Chief Minister wanted all measures to be taken to bring down the prices of onions. He said funds were no problem and the Horticulture Department would be allotted Rs. 10 crore if needed.

Dr. Reddy was informed that the present retail market price of onions was Rs. 12 to 14 a kg as against Rs. 16 to 18 in August last year.
