HMR bracing to face hurdles

HYDERABAD: Having pulled off a coup of sorts through its bidding process for the elevated metro rail, Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMR) authorities are now bracing up for the next phase of action – grounding and construction work.

While the financial closure process is on, authorities are turning their attention towards traffic management during the construction, shifting of utilities and also preserving the heritage monuments. “We want to do the work causing least inconvenience to the people,” said HMR Chairman C.V.S.K. Sarma.

Interacting with presspersons on Tuesday, Dr. Sarma sought support of all sections of society for the project as it will be a vital public transport in the years to come for the capital.

“We have achieved a milestone in completing the bidding successfully. We have to now plan for lot of issues likely to come up,” he said.

Scientific traffic management during the construction work across the three routes was one key area, he pointed out, adding that the effort would be to enhance the beauty and landscape of the heritage structures as well as the city as a whole.

“We have managed to take 90 per cent properties on Line one – Miyapur to L.B.Nagar and 50 per cent properties remain to be taken on Line two – Jubilee Bus Station to Falaknuma and Line three – Nagole to Shilparamam in Hyderabad,” said Dr. Sarma.
