UNFPA gave assurance to support the action plan in the health sector from 2008-2012. The plan intends to facilitate the implementation of on going maternal and child health programme and also support population stabilization initiatives.

State Health Secretary T. K Pandey and UNFPA Country Director Nesim Tumkaya signed the agreement.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Pandey reiterated improving overall maternal and child health status was primary focus of the State government.

The department had already initiated structural reforms to bring about overall change in the health service delivery system, he said, adding that technical and institutional support from UNFPA would further enable the above process.

Mr. Tumkaya, who was apprised of the current progress in health sector of Orissa, said UNFPA had a mandate to work on reproductive health and population issues and was already working in partnership with the different state governments.
