KARIMNAGAR: Thanks to the bumper harvest and good price to the cotton produce during the last season, the cotton cultivation had been doubled during this kharif season in Karimnagar district. Against the normal area of cultivation of cotton in 1,04,146 hectares, during this kharif season the cotton was cultivated in 2,25,200 hectares when compared to 1.53 lakh hectares during the kharif 2007. On the other hand, the maize cultivation had declined from 95,560 hectares in khariff 2007 to 61,450 hectares during this season. The normal area of cultivation of maize is 1,06,314 hectares during the kharif season in the district. With the onset monsoon rains, the paddy cultivation had reached 55,625 hectares against the normal area of 1,26,389 hectares. The agricultural officials say that the paddy cultivation same day during the last kharif season was 57,530 hectares. The officials said that against the normal area of cultivation in 3,98,855 hectares during this kharif season, the cultivation was taken up in 3,70,442 hectares, which is 92,87 per cent. Against the normal rainfall of 465.3 mm till August 4, the district received 352.69 mm rainfall till date.
