“Avoid shortcoming in development works”

Collector warns officials and civic chiefs of action

VIRUDHUNAGAR: The Collector, V. Chandrasekaran, on Tuesday warned panchayat presidents and officials concerned of action if there was any shortcoming in the implementation of development works.

Inspecting the ongoing works under the Anaithu Grama Anna Marumalarchi Thittam in Narikudi panchayat union on Tuesday, he said that there was a delay in the implementation of the work in some local bodies. Besides action against officials and panchayat presidents, work contracts would be cancelled if the contractors failed to commence the job in time, he added.

Mr. Chandrasekaran inspected Velanoorani, Poomalaipatti and Meenakulam panchayats where works to the tune of Rs.60 lakh had been taken up under the scheme. He wanted the officials to complete it at the earliest.

Among the works he inspected were desilting and construction of steps at different ooranis and construction of library buildings. He also reviewed English language skills being imparted to students through multimedia kit at the Valayapatti panchayat union primary school.

Mr. Chandrasekaran asked the officials to keep the school building neat and tidy and take up repair works wherever necessary. He also received petitions from the local people.

The District Rural Development Agency, Project Officer, J. Sadasivam, the Tiruchuzhi Tahisldar, Gomathinayagam, were among those who accompanied the Collector.
