Contests to be held for students

ARIYALUR: The district administration will conduct oratory, essay and drawing competitions for school and college students on August 20 to celebrate the birth anniversary of late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi as Renewable Energy Day.
The events would be celebrated in all the blocks: Ariyalur, Andimadam, T. Pazhur, Jayankondam, Tirumanur and Senthurai. At the conclusion of a preparatory meeting on Tuesday, a Committee was constituted with the District Collector R. Sudalaikannan as the Chairperson for celebrating the event. Others in the Committee comprise the Project Officer of District Rural Development Agency as the Organiser, and the following as members: Superintendent of Police, Regional Joint Director of Collegiate Education, District Public Relations Officer, Chief Educational Officer, District Educational Officer, Project Officer of Mahalir Thittam, representatives of educational institutions, and representatives of non-government organisations.
A rally of students will be organised on the day besides running race and a human chain. Oratory, essay and drawing competitions will be conducted at the level of schools and colleges.
The first three winners of the oratory competition will be honoured with Rs. 1,500, Rs. 1,250 and Rs. 1,000 respectively along with certificates. The winner of this competition will take part in the State-level competition. Essays and drawings will also be displayed at the State-level function.
