Poll tie-up depends on Chiru party: Narayana

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The electoral alliance in Andhra Pradesh will depend on the launching of the party by film actor Chiranjeevi, as according to the party’s feedback from the ground level, Mr. Chiranjeevi might emerge as a strong force, said Communist Party India A.P. secretary K. Narayana.

The CPI leader, who was here to attend the party’s national council meeting, told The Hindu that his organisation was keeping its option open on Chiranjeevi’s party. Though the CPI had joined hands with the TDP led by N. Chandrababu Naidu on the nuclear-deal vis-a-vis vote of confidence, it should not be forgotten that the party had several agitations against Mr. Naidu when he was Chief Minister.

“We want to wait and watch the emergence of Mr. Chiranjeevi’s party and other developments before working out the electoral alliances,” he said, adding that the State unit, however, would abide by the directions of the CPI headquarters.
