THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Water Resources Minister N.K. Premachandran said here on Tuesday that the structures over the main pipeline of the Thiruvananthapuram Water Supply Scheme would be cleared by next week. The Minister told journalists that the Kerala Water Authority (KWA) had determined the alignment of 1,200 mm pipeline which was laid in 1925 from Aruvikkara to Thiruvananthapuram. Several people had occupied the land above the pipeline. They would be evicted after survey of the area. The survey report was expected to be received on Monday. The Cabinet sub-committee would meet on Tuesday and take the necessary decisions. Mr. Premachandran said the KWA was in possession about 302 cent ‘puramboke’ land in the Vellayambalam area. Only those occupying the land over the pipeline would be evicted. He said that the government had asked Additional Director General of Police Siby Mathews to inquire into the encroachments. Mr. Mathews had reported that several structures had come up over the pipeline. The report had warned that the situation could lead to human casualties in case of pipe burst.
