Voter list: new entries to be made till August 20

Staff Reporter

District administration to publish the final list by September 13

Several complaints from political parties

Process of making changes begins

VIJAYAWADA: Applications for new entries and corrections in the draft photo electoral rolls published on August 1 will be taken up till August 20, as the district administration is preparing to publish the final list by September 13.

The voters, whose names do not figure in the draft lists, have to submit their applications in person and individually. Applications will not be accepted in bunches, but they can be submitted by individuals on behalf of family members only after showing evidence of residence in the district.

There have been several complaints from political parties about mismatch of photos and also deletion of names in the draft electoral rolls. As these mistakes were found to be due to errors in data entry during the enumeration, the officials have begun the process of making changes.

The booth level officials or the offices of panchayat, tehsildar or revenue divisional officers may be contacted for submitting applications for changes in the rolls.

Issue of cards

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Joint Collector G. Ramanarayana Reddy and Sub-Collector Gaurav Uppal said that the Electoral Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) would be issued to all uncovered voters after the present enumeration was completed. They said that the political parties had drawn their attention to some complaints, which had already come to their notice.

Till now, the names of 29.32 lakh voters had been included in the draft rolls in the district, which was not inclusive of the voters falling under 140 polling stations. The number of voters prior to this exercise was 29.47 lakh. By the time the 140 left-out polling stations were also covered and the final list prepared, the total number of voters in the district was expected to be the same as before the start of the present enumeration.

Officials said that all steps were taken to prevent any negligence in the door-to-door enumeration for the photo electoral lists. But it had come to their notice that problems cropped in integrating the data collected during the elaborate exercise involving many enumeration staff. Even if some people’s names did not figure in the lists, there was no cause for worry since voters’ enrolment was a continuous process, they said.

Permanent designated photo locations were located at booth, panchayat, tehsil and revenue division levels. They were not yet operational due to delay in appointment of staff. However, people could submit their applications and give two photos each for inclusion in the final lists.
