Some of the CBSE schools had declared holiday on Monday in view of the protest. KOCHI: Classes were affected in schools and colleges in Ernakulam district following the education hartal called by the Kerala Students Union on Tuesday demanding withdrawal of the controversial Social Sciences textbook for Class VII. Holiday for CBSESome of the CBSE schools had declared holiday on Monday in view of the protest. But several other schools in the city functioned uninterrupted. Classes in several colleges in the district were also hit. KSU activists staged protests on the campuses against the government policy on self-financing colleges. They also urged the government to withdraw the Social Sciences textbook for seventh standard at the earliest. KSU activists distributed social science textbooks published by the union in schools, as a mark of protest against the textbook prepared by the Education Department. The union will strengthen its agitation in the coming days seeking the withdrawal of the controversial textbook.
