Conference to focus on infectious diseases
MADURAI: Infections are the commonest cause for increased morbidity and mortality among children, and ways to tackle infectious diseases will be the thrust area of the 33rd annual State conference of paediatricians to be held here from August 8.
Briefing presspersons here on Tuesday, M.L. Vasanthakumari, Professor and Head, Institute of Child Health and Research Centre, Government Rajaji hospital, said resistant pneumonia, dengue, malaria, diarrhoea, fever, rheumatic fever, chicken pox and other infections would be deliberated at the three-day conference of the Indian Academy of Paediatrics – Tamil Nadu Chapter, ‘Madurai Pedicon 2008.’
Organised by the Institute of Child Health and Research Centre, GRH, and the Indian Academy of Paediatrics, Madurai branch, the theme of the conference will be ‘Infections – newer challenges and fewer options.’
The conference will be preceded by four workshops on paediatric ophthalmology, Breast Feeding Promotion Network of India (BPNI), Neonatal Advanced Life Support and Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP).
