Arasu officials’ complaint against Sun TV network

N. Anand

“End users in some districts not able

to watch popular serials”

CHENNAI: Having switched over to Arasu Cable TV to get quality feed at an economical rate, the end users in Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Perambalur, Ariyalur and Nagapattinam are unable to watch popular television serials as Sun TV network is refusing to share the feed.

“The networks have to provide the feed within a timeframe of 60 days. Time is fast running out for them. As a first step, we made the announcement and then issued a public notice. The next step is to approach Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT),” said an Arasu Cable TV Corporation (ACTC) official.

The end users are demanding four channels (Sun TV, KTV, Sun Music and Sun News) that are popular in Tamil Nadu.

“Currently, ACTC is providing 73 channels, including 26 pay channels. Everyone doesn’t need all the channels. We can beam Teja, Gemini, Surya, Udaya and Udaya Movies, including other channels depending upon the area. The customer in Tirunelveli will ask for Surya or Kiran and will not view Telugu or Kannada channels. Sony is not so popular in Tamil Nadu, but customers want the popular Star Vijay TV,” he said.

ACTC supplies feed to Local Cable Operators (LCOs). If the LCO wants feed of a particular channel, he has to inform ACTC, which would take it up with the broadcaster concerned. In this case, it happens to be Sun, Star and Sony TV networks.

ACTC officials are gearing up to roll out the services from Coimbatore by August 15. Work on providing fibre link to LCOs are being carried out from the digital control room and internal wiring will be completed in the next couple of days.
