‘No desire to become Chief Minister’
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president D. Srinivas has said that he has no desire to become the Chief Minister of the State.
In a significant departure from his earlier statement after the 2004 elections that he was in the race for the Chief Minister’s post, Mr. Srinivas, at a press conference here on Tuesday, said: “My only desire is to see the Congress flag flying high always, whether I am there or not.”
Replying to a query whether he was keen on becoming the Chief Minister after the government’s decision to recommend 33 per cent quota for Backward Classes in the legislature, he said “The Congress Legislature Party decides its leader.”
Hailing the government’s decision to pass a resolution for a 33 per cent quota for the BCs, he said the Congress would surprise the other parties by giving the maximum number of tickets to the weaker sections.
He said the winning chances and caste equation would be the criteria for allotting tickets.
