COLOMBO: Sri Lanka’s military on Tuesday claimed it made further advances into LTTE-held areas in the northern districts of Mullathivu and Kilinochchi. The LTTE suffered heavy casualties in the battles, it added. Though it has been three days since the military claimed it entered Kilinochchi district, there is no word yet from the LTTE on the issue. A statement posted on the LTTE website, however, does acknowledge large-scale displacement of people in Wanni. A Defence Ministry statement said soldiers engaged in “offensive march to liberate Wanni from terror’s grip, further advanced into LTTE territory, inflicting damages to the enemy.”
