It is impractical: ABVP

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad on Tuesday said some of the clauses in the model code of conduct for the Delhi University Students’ Union polls this year were “highly impractical”.

Reacting to the guidelines issued by the University authorities, the ABVP pointed out that the Rs.5,000 ceiling on election expenditure was unreasonable as it was not possible for candidates to visit all the 51 colleges affiliated to the DUSU for campaigning in that small an amount.

“The authorities have also banned use of vehicles which is not practical. The candidates need a vehicle as they move around a lot during electioneering. It is not possible for them to commute in DTC buses to reach out to all the colleges,” said ABVP activist Niharika Sharma, demanding that the election advisory committee do a re-think on some clauses and make them more realistic.
