JAIPUR: The users of BSNL Broadband services here in the Rajasthan Capital will now be able to access IPTV (interactive and personalised television) with the public sector telecommunication company and Aksh Optifibre coming together to launch “icontrol”, a connection that allows viewers to watch programmes according to their convenience. The facility was launched in Delhi and Mumbai last month. “Aksh’s ‘icontrol’ is designed to enable the consumers to control the television, the idiot box, into a utility box and establish a two-way communication. The interactive factor is currently non-existent in tele-viewing offered by DTH or CAS,” said Aksh Optifibre Limited Managing Director K.S. Choudhari on the occasion of the launch here on Monday. Facility to be extended“We expect to reach out to more customers with the tie-up. The facility is to be extended to other major cities in Rajasthan such as Jodhpur and Udaipur. "With the new partnership with Aksh, BSNL would facilitate the reach of IPTV to six million homes,” said BSNL Chief General Manager (Rajasthan Circle) G.K. Agarwal. The facility is confined to the users of BSNL Broadband. In Jaipur “icontrol” will be made available at Rs.150 per month to the customers. The initial investment includes Rs.999 for the set-up box (which is refundable). The subscription enables the customer access to 120 channels comprising bouquets of Sony, Star, Neo, Ten Sports and others. It offers more than 200 movies with rewind, fast forward and pause option and allows watching a programme of one’s choice even up to seven days after its telecast. Aksh Optifibre Limited, the second largest company manufacturing optical fibre cable in India, has its two plants in Bhiwadi and Jatpura in Rajasthan. Mr. Choudhari said the company would soon roll out IPTV services in 20 more cities in North India in the States of Punjab, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan and western Uttar Pradesh.
