Yeddyurappa warns slack officials

Special Correspondent

‘If you have no interest in work go on long leave’

Work on Dandavati irrigation project to

be launched next month

Yeddyurappa to hold review meetings in at

least three districts in a month

SHIKARIPUR: “If you have no interest in work go on a long leave and be home bound instead of doing the job irresponsibly.” These were the words of warning from Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa to officials at a review meeting held at the Shikaripur Taluk Panchayat meeting hall on Wednesday.

He reminded them that government grant was nothing but poor people’s money. “It is your responsibility to see that every paise is spent judiciously by working sincerely,” he told the officials.

The detailed project report of the Dandavati irrigation project was ready, Mr. Yeddyurappa said and asked the authorities concerned to make preparations for the launch of construction next month.

As many as six villages would submerge with the implementation of the project, he said and asked people not to be apprehensive about it as the Government would not go ahead with the project without providing compensation and other facilities to the families that would be displaced.

Mr. Yeddyurappa said that implementation of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme in Shikaripur taluk was far from satisfactory as hardly Rs. 1 lakh of the sanctioned Rs. 5 crore had been spent under the scheme so far.

He said that people were not taking up jobs under the scheme as the daily minimum wage was less compared to that being paid under projects taken up in other sectors.

The Chief Minister said that he would take up the matter with the Union Government and ask for fixing the minimum daily wage under the scheme.

Mr. Yeddyurappa said that he would visit at least three districts in a month to hold review meeting with the ministers in-charge to ensure speedy implementation of development works.

He expressed anguish over the deterioration of Shikaripur-Honnali road and slackness in the construction of Kumudwati-Ambaragoppa dam. He instructed the officials to speed up implementation of all development works that came within the purview of Shikaripur town.

“The works have not brought satisfaction to me. I will not hesitate to initiate action if quality is not maintained in development works,” he said.

Mr. Yeddyurappa asked the officials to provide underground drainage connection to every household in Shikaripur free of cost. Officials requested the Chief Minister to release grants sanctioned under the 12th Plan.

Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Kumar Pandey, Chief Executive Officer of the zilla panchayat V. Anbu Kumar, president of the taluk panchayat Revanappa Jogi, president of the Shikaripur Town Municipal Council Venkatesh and its member B.Y. Raghavendra and taluk-level officials were present.
