BANGALORE: Hyderabad Karnataka Horata Samithi has urged the Government to set up a Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) at Bellary. Addressing presspersons here on Monday, the president of the samithi and former Minister Vaijanath Patil said that establishing RGUHS at Ramanagaram was not “geographically appropriate” and it should be shifted to Bellary. At least the para-medical university could be bifurcated from the health university, and the former could be shifted to Bellary as a separate branch, he said. Stressing that local candidates should be appointed for the posts of teachers and lecturers, Mr. Patil said that out of 1,164 primary teachers selected recently, only 167 were from Gulbarga district. Lack of representation for local people existed in other north Karnataka districts also, such as Bidar, Raichur, Bellary and Koppal districts, he added.
