Mahatma Montessori qualifies

Madurai: Mahatma Montessori MHSS beat SBOA MHSS, Nagamalai, by five-wickets in the final of the Madurai District Boost Trophy inter-school cricket tournament and qualified for the inter-district tournament (second stage) here on Wednesday.

The scores: SBOA MHSS 103 for five in 30 overs (Syed Ibrahim 35) lost to Mahatma Montessori MHSS 106 for five in 27 overs (Abrar Essa 37 not out, Srishkumar 28 not out).

At Sivakasi (quarterfinals): Vinayakar MHSS 76 in 28.2 overs lost to SHNV HSS 78 for four in 14 overs (Ramakrishnan 33 not out); Jaycees MHSS 77 in 20 overs lost to TNTMMN HSS, Dalavaipuram 80 for one in 8 overs (Marimuthu 29 not out); Kamarajar MHSS 110 in 28 overs (Jegadeesh four for nine) lost to KVS MHSS, Virudhunagar 111 for five in 16 overs (Sivaram Harish 41); KVS HSS, Virudhunagar 198 in 28.1 overs (Saravankumar 26, Madhan 42, Gowtham four for 40) bt Lions MHSS, Thiruthangal 79 in 17 overs (Balamurugan three for five).

At Ramanathapuram (first round): MG Public School 176 for six in 25 overs (Karthikeyan 43, Sultan Ameer Jehan 25, Karthik three for 35) bt Mannar Sethupathy Matric. MSS Walkford College, Madurai, won the title in with an all-win record in the four-team league in the Madurai Kamaraj University Champion Trophy inter-collegiate kabaddi tournament at Sattur on Tuesday.

Arul Senthil wins

At Tiruchi B. Arul Senthil of Bishop Heber College, with 5.5 points from six rounds, won the title in the Bharathidasan University inter-collegiate chess tournamenton Wednesday.
