5 kg of rice for students under noon-meal scheme Thirteen new ITIs for State this year
V.S. Achuthanandan says 1,088 ha has to be acquired for the Vizhinjam project. THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Cabinet on Wednesday decided to take steps for the development of roads, railway lines, warehouses, parking areas and other infrastructure for the proposed Vizhinjam international transhipment terminal in view of the clearance for the project from the Union Defence Ministry. Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan said 1,088 hectares would have to be acquired. Security clearance for the project from the Union Home Ministry is pending. The Chief Minister announced that 13 new Industrial Training Institutes would be started in the State this year. The Cabinet has cleared creation of 221 posts for the purpose. It has decided to appoint a special officer to take preliminary steps for the establishment of the proposed international free software and knowledge centre. Mr. Achuthanandan said the government would provide 5 kg of rice free of charge to every student covered under the noon-meal scheme before Onam. The family of soldier K.G. Sudarshanan who was killed in firing by Bangladesh forces on the India-Bangladesh border on July 23 would be given Rs.1 lakh as solatium. Sudarshanan belonged to Kandallur in Alappuzha district. Tinku Biswal will be posted as Director of Agriculture. Joint Excise Commissioner Puneet Kumar will be posted as Director of Collegiate Education and K. Sasidhara will be posted in his place. The Department of Culture had been asked to look into the demand for setting up a memorial for Chattambi Swamigal in the capital city. Replying to a question, he said a decision on recommending pending applications for Special Economic Zone status to the Central government had been deferred. He said the State Farmers Debt Relief Commission’s criticisms about the government not carrying out its recommendations were unwarranted. The government had frozen recovery of loans taken by farmers of Wayanad. It was awaiting the implementation of the Centre’s loan waiver so that it could limit its relief to those not covered under it.
