Greening drive on Museum campus
Staff Reporter
Chennai: Exnora International will develop new pockets of greenery on the campus of the Government Museum, Egmore.
A compost pit would also be constructed to convert garden waste into manure.
Exnora Founder M.B. Nirmal said that shrubs and ornamental plants would be raised.
Commissioner of Museums Shanthini Kapoor said the greening would be done without any disturbance to the existing ecosystem. The existing landscaping would be maintained.
Several trees
The museum has several trees and is home to a colony of about 300 fruit bats. Nature enthusiasts conduct ‘tree walks’ inside the campus to study the variety of flora.
Kids’ area to be improved
Ms.Kapoor said that the museum receives 1,000 – 3,000 visitors a day with large crowds coming in on holidays. The children’s activity area is to be improved.
Ms. Kapoor added that improvements have been planned in museums in Tiruchi and Tirunelveli districts too.
