Permission from Railways yet to be received Consultations on between HUDA and Railways HYDERABAD: The agony of scores of road users on the spinal road that meanders between Kukatpally and Madhapur is going to be a prolonged affair. A road overbridge (RoB) flying over the railway tracks near the Hi Tec City MMTS, expected to ease the congestion here, is likely to take considerable time before turning into a reality. The work on the RoB taken up by the Hyderabad Development Authority (HUDA) started some time back but presently the project remains bogged down in delays for want of clearance on parts that go over the track. Several of the piers have already taken shape but authorities say some slight modifications might be needed for them too. The Railways have to issue permission for the RoB parts that cross its tracks but the same has not been received so far, an official said. The HUDA had deposited Rs.1 crore as per the initial agreement but a go ahead on the design aspect kept the project delayed. “The railways have asked for some changes particularly with respect to the height and the same have been incorporated,” the official said. Design changedThe HUDA has submitted the changed design and drawings and once the comments of the Railways are received, a detailed design is to be submitted for a final clearance. Apart from modifications, the railways asked an additional deposit of Rs.40 lakh and a decision is to be taken on this, he said. Since the piers for the RoB were set up as per the initial plan, new changes once approved could mean modifying them too. “We may have to cut them out a bit and redesign accordingly,” he added. HUDA Executive Engineer B. Anand Mohan, however said that the matter is being pursued at the highest level between the two agencies. “Our vice-chairman has recently met the SCR top officials and the work will start at the earliest,” he said. Once the new designs get approved, it will take another seven months to complete the work. Choking pointGiven the high volume of traffic that started using the Spinal Road connecting the IT hub of Madhapur and Gachibowli with parts of Kukatpally and other parts of the city, a narrow underpass near the MMTS station has turned into a choking point. To ease the congestions at this point, the RoB was taken up and when completed will rest on 110 piers with an estimated project cost of Rs. 24 crore.
