CUTTACK: The Cuttack railway station is going to have a new look soon as the railway authorities here have undertaken a massive programme at a cost of Rs 5.56 crore. With the operation of second Railway Bridge over river Mahanadi, and the opening of another exit gate of the station last week, the importance of the station has now increased considerably. Railway Board chairman K C Jena during his recent visit to the station also inaugurated a new foot over bridge of the station which has now paved way to spread the station campus towards the eastern side. “Very soon we would acquire land to have a new connectivity of the station with the National Highway-5,” Mr. Jena said. New gateThe new gate on the eastern side has an automatic ticket vending counter with a touch-screen enquiry counter for the benefit of the passengers. The eastern opening of the station was a long standing demand of the city people as Cuttack is now expanding rapidly at its eastern fringes. Mr. Jena had also indicated that the main entrance of the station which is coming up in the shape of historic Barabati Fort would soon be completed and all the platforms of the station would have more cover sheds with better passenger amenities. “At least Rs 40 lakh is now being spent towards improving all the four platforms of the station,” the Khurda Road DRM S. Venkatasamy had said recently.
