“Switch off lights to arrest global warming”

SIVAKASI: Sivakasi Velayutha Rastha Civic Exnora, Rajapalayam-Sivakasi Round Table 158 and the Inner Wheel Club of Sivakasi have jointly organised an awareness programme on global warming here on Friday.

As a symbolic pledge to take proactive steps to arrest global warming, the members have asked the residents of Sivakasi to switch off all electric lights and appliances for 8 minutes from 8 p.m. on August 8.

The associations have suggested four small steps to save the Earth.

The first is prevention of toxic emission into the atmosphere by using less electricity. People can save fuel by less usage of private vehicles. Instead, they can make more use of public transport, walk and use bicycles wherever possible. Usage of plastic should be reduced. It could be recycled and reused. More saplings should be planted.
