ADILABAD: Relief works were started earnestly on Thursday in Koutala and Bejjur mandals while protests were staged by victims of Monday’s floods in Adilabad town. One relief camp each at Babasagar in Koutala mandal and Nagulwai in Bejjur mandal were opened for the victims of these villages which were the worst affected by floods. Sirpur MLA Koneru Konappa said of the 600 families that were affected by floods in his constituency, 225 belonged to Babasagar alone. All the families were being supplied with rations, clothing and bedsheets or blankets, he said. Some 23 survey teams have been making rounds of the affected areas to assess the damage. Collector Ahmad Nadeem and Joint Collector Ravi Babu have also visited the worst affected places, he added. “The scale of damage was beyond comprehension and hence I feel the Government need to enhance the scale of compensation too,” Mr. Konappa urged. Meanwhile, victims of the floods belonging to Ramkrishna colony, Dasnapur, Ramnagar, Subhashnagar, Sainagar and Gandhinagar staged separate dharnas in front of the district Collectorate demanding relief and compensation for the property lost. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) resorted to blocking the gates of the Collectorate in the afternoon demanding that Collector Ahmad Nadeem personally listen to the woes of the residents of these colonies. Adilabad RDO Krishna Reddy assured the victims of all possible help.
