Kolkata: The Trinamool Congress leadership has alleged that party chief Mamata Banerjee received a telephone call as well as an SMS (short messaging service) on her mobile around 8 p.m. on Tuesday holding threat to her life. Asked if the police had been informed, senior Trinamool leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Partha Chatterjee said “the appropriate authorities” had been intimated. The CID was investigating the case, Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) Raj Kanojia said. The person responsible for the call and the SMS had been identified. The call was made from a public call office in Uttarpara in Hooghly district, Mr. Chatterjee claimed. Mr. Kanojia said it was yet to be ascertained whether the call was made from a phone booth.
