ONGOLE: A wordy duel between Addanki MLA Karanam Balaramakrishna Murthi (TDP) and Markapur MLA K. P. Konda Reddy (Congress-I) marred the District Review Committee (DRC) meeting held here on Thursday. A sarcastic comment made by Mr Balaram against Mr Konda Reddy triggered a heated exchange of words between them leading to tension and necessitating adjournment of the meeting for 90 minutes. It all started when the DRC was reviewing progress of projects taken up under Jalayagnam. It completed discussion on the Gundlakamma, Ramatheertham and Veligonda and proceeding to discuss the Palair project. At this, Mr Balaram raised the issue of the Korisepadu lift irrigation scheme with the permission of district in-charge Minister M V Ramana Rao, who was in the chair. ObjectionMr Konda Reddy thought that he was reopening debate on the Gundlakamma project and took objection. Saying that the discussion on Gundlakamma was already over, he requested the chair to adhere to schedule so they could discuss all issues without losing time. At this, Mr Balaram commented in a lighter vein that Mr Konda Reddy was becoming impatient. Mr Konda Reddy grew wild at his comment and asked him to be in his limits. Situation went berserk as they freely exchanged words later. As all efforts to pacify them proved futile, Mr Ramana Rao adjourned the meeting for lunch at 1.30 pm. When they reassembled, Mr Konda Reddy stayed away from the meeting.
