Tributes paid to Harikishan Singh Surjeet

State leaders of CPI (M) and other parties at a meeting organised in Bhubaneswar on Thursday to condole the death of Harikishan Singh Surjeet.

BHUBANESWAR: Rich tributes were paid to Harikishan Singh Surjeet, veteran leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), here on Thursday. Hundreds of party workers assembled at Jayadev Bhawan where leaders from other political parties hailed the communist leader for his efforts to keep parties believing in “secular” ideologies together.

State CPI (M) secretary Janardhan Pati said Surjeet had worked tirelessly to uphold democratic values of the country and his contribution towards welfare of labour class would be remembered.

His demise was a great loss to the Communist parties, Mr. Pati said.

Shivaji Patnaik, a senior CPI (M) leader, also recalled Surjeet’s role when separatist elements were becoming dominant force.
