Vijayawada
VIJAYAWADA: ‘Sanitation week’, during which the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) will lay special emphasis on keeping the city spic and span, was launched at Mutyalampadu on Thursday. Mayor Mallika Begum, who flagged off a rally taken out by school students on the occasion, called upon them to create awareness among people about hygiene and cleanliness. She called upon the people to realise that sanitation and hygiene was everyone’s duty, and through these they could help the corporation in keeping the city clean and green. Citizens could prevent communicable diseases if they kept their premises clean. They should grow trees to make their environs green and liveable, she said. Municipal Commissioner P. S. Pradyumna urged people to keep the city clean just the way they keep their own house clean. He wanted the Resident Welfare Associations to take lead in maintaining hygienic conditions in their localities. The local welfare associations should take the required measures, so that their division could become a model division in the city. Local corporator and Deputy Mayor Samanthapudi Narasaraju assured the Commissioner that they would strive to develop their division as a model division with the active cooperation of residents. The Mayor, the Deputy Mayor, the Commissioner and others planted saplings at GS Raju road.
