Patna: The Patna High Court on Thursday asked the Bihar State Universities and Colleges Employees Federation to withdraw their indefinite strike within 48 hours so that normal functioning of the educational institutions can be restored from Monday. A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Rajendra Mal Lodha and Justice Dr Raviranjan passed the order after converting a complaint received by the court from a student of Daroga Rai College in Chapra, Sunny Prakash, about the plight of students, into a PIL. Direction to Govt. The Bench also directed the State Government to work for implementation of July 17, 2007 agreement the latter had reached with the representatives of the Federation, within a month. Functioning of universities and colleges across Bihar remained paralysed on the 38th day with the non-teaching employees on an indefinite strike to press for their demands for higher wages. The strike sparked State-wide protests by students owing allegiance to Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthy Parishad, NSUI and All India Students’ Federation protesting the State government’s alleged indifference towards conceding the demand of the Federation as the agitation had affected their classes and admissions.
