ALAPPUZHA: An unprecedented level of security will be in place for the 56th edition of the Nehru Trophy Boat Race that will be held on the Punnamada Lake here on Saturday. The enhanced security is due to the recent terror threats in the State. More than 1,000 personnel will be deployed in the town, particularly at the venue. As many as 16 deputy superintendents of Police, 23 circle inspectors, 107 sub inspectors and assistant sub inspectors will be present at the venue, District Superintendent of Police C.H. Nagaraju said. Bomb squads, dog squads and explosive experts from the district police force and the bomb squad with “sophisticated equipment” from the State headquarters would also be present in town from Friday, Mr. Nagaraju said.
