JAIPUR: The first cooperative supermarket run entirely by women has started at Balotra town in Barmer district of Rajasthan. A total of 25 “Uphaar” supermarkets have been opened so far as a chain in the cooperative sector in the State.

State Cooperative Minister Nathu Singh Gujjar said here on Thursday that all the supermarkets were earning good profits and supplying goods at reasonable prices. The Balotra supermarket is being run by Mahila Sahakari Samiti. He added that arrangement had been made at the supermarkets to sell various products below their maximum retail prices.

The supermarkets are managed by the Cooperative Department in collaboration with the cooperative marketing societies and Upbhokta Bhandars in various districts.

They have been opened at Sawai Madhopur, Dungapur, Chittaurgarh, Banswara and Kota among other places.
