Staff Correspondent

HOSPET: “Arogya Kavacha,” a health scheme covering trauma, accident, maternity and all other health emergencies of people, including accidents related to fire, especially in the rural areas, will be launched in seven districts in the State on Karnataka Rajyotsava day, according to Minister for Tourism G. Janardhan Reddy.

Speaking after welcoming the Red Ribbon Express on its arrival at Hospet Railway Station here on Wednesday to create awareness among the public about HIV/AIDS, Mr. Reddy said that Bellary, the home district of Health Minister B. Sriramulu, would be among the seven districts where the scheme would be launched.

He said that well-equipped ambulance would arrive on the spot within 15 minutes after getting a call to transport the patient to the hospital. “Be it any health emergency, including road accident, maternity, fire accident, the ambulance will arrive within 15 minutes,” he said adding that two cellphones would be provided to the ambulance drivers to receive the calls.

Mr. Sriramulu, who inaugurated the exhibition, said that the State Government had planned to provide health insurance cover for the poor having BPL cards. As per the proposed scheme, patients suffering from major ailments, including heart, kidney, cancer and the like, could get treatment at the super-speciality hospitals while the expenditure would be borne by the Government.

“The scheme would be announced very soon,” the Minister added.
